Hi, how are you doing today?

Today as many times before I encountered a YouTube video about skincare routine. A girl in the video was sharing tips on how to keep your skin in best condition and what are her favourite products and so on. And I just couldn't help myself to stop thinking of a fact that this would probably never worked for anyone with skin condition.

Let me give you a bit of a background.

At the age of 12 I was diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis. Even thought I was fighting the skin mutation since my 10th year. I went through treatment for psoriasis and latter on for skin fungus and allergies. When my condition despite the treatments wasn't getting better, I went in for the new diagnose. And that is when I was told I have atopic dermatitis. To explain my condition, let me give you an abstract about it from the Google:

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is a condition that causes dry, itchy and inflamed skin. It's common in young children but can occur at any age. Atopic dermatitis is long lasting (chronic) and tends to flare sometimes. It can be irritating but it's not contagious.

(If you are curious about it more, I recommend you to read these article: https://www.niams.nih.gov/health-topics/atopic-dermatitis)

I went through a lot of different medical balms yet after a few weeks of use all of them failed to help me further on. My atopic dermatitis spread all over my scalp, my eyebrows, on area around my nose, neack, behind and in ears, finger joints and knees. As small as it might seem irritating and itchy skin that gets red and pills off into small open wounds every few days is not fun.

Back than I was desperate for any kind of sedative. So I started my journey. This is what helped me to get my skin condition under control:

1. I got rid of anything containing any sorts of chemicals. I threw out all my old shampoos (brands: Dove, Loreal, Head and Shoulders...), conditioners, deodorands, creams for face and heands, perfumes...

I switched to all natural products. Which can you get your hands on will depend on where you live. My go-to brands are: Afrodita cosmetics, Ilirija, Just and Eucerin. The products that made the most difference for me are:

- Afrodita: face and hand cream with aloe vera & cucumbers and pot marigold & aloe vera,

- Just: pot marigold & herbs SOS cream,

- Eucerin: Eucerin DermoCapillaire hypertolerant shampoo,

- Ilirija: All natural shampoo collection.

2. I removed all my makeup. Meaning I stopped using fondations, powders, contours... And since I had a problem in my eyebrows area as well, I also dropped the usage of mascaras, eyeshadows and eyeliners.

3. I started applying tonic to my skin three times a day. My favourite one is Aloe vera soft skin tonic by Afrodita.

4. I became aware of what I was eating. This is the topic where I believe there is no universal recepy what will help you. A bit of experimenting will be the best indicator of what works for you and what dosen't.

As it turned out for me - my biggest problem was anything containing caco. Chocolates, cookies, creams... Once I got that out of the way my skin was acting up a lot minor than usual.

5. I stopped washing my face with hot or very warm water. Even though I am a hot water lover, I noticed that every morning after my face-wash my skin was worse than before. I turned out to be very hot water intolerant when it comes to my skin.

Few factors that also can play a role in your skin conditions are also the fabrics that come in contact with your skin, the dryness of space around you and how much you tend to touch irritating skin parts. Personally I hadn't noticed any big change for me in this area but it is something to keep in mind.

Well that brings us to the end of this post. I this will come to be handy to you or your loved ones.

Till the next time - see ya later alligator!
